Celebrity makes surprise appearance at launch of music project in Hyde

Until recently, Danny Miller (left) played Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap Emmerdale.

Emmerdale and I'm a Celebrity star Danny Miller dropped into Hyde's POP Community Hub last weekend.

He made a surprise appearance as a new music tuition project was launched, with the aim of using music to bring the community together.

The project was the idea of members of the existing Surtal Music Group, Foysal Akram and Mohammed Khan, who secured funding from the National Lottery to start a multicultural scheme to help budding musicians start on their musical journeys.

A conversation with Jackie Francis, who manages POP Community Hub, led to a collaboration to enable a plan of action to be formulated.

After attracting support from several local musicians and community activists, they arrived at a name of The Bridge at POP, which describes one of the project's many aims.

The group then secured the services of two tutors, Dan Dickson and Andrew Park, to provide guitar and keyboard lessons respectively.

The project will open every Saturday between midday and 2pm, and will be available to all ages who want tips on playing instruments.

Lessons will be available to book with the two tutors, the first two 30 minute lessons being free and then costing just £5 per session thereafter.

The project is for anyone aged over six years old, but under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

As well as Danny, the launch was attended by Tameside's Civic Mayor Cllr Janet Cooper (pictured below) and local dignitaries.

The Bridge at POP has a Facebook page for those who would like to find out more, or just drop into a session.
