Care workers in Tameside share their stories

Ten care workers in Tameside have shared their stories of the realities of working in care to give people who are considering care work an insight into the industry.

In the video, which you can watch above, care workers discuss their roles and routes into care, sharing their personal experiences and advice for people who want to know more about what it’s like to be a carer.

The video provides viewers with an insight into the care industry and raises awareness of the different roles and progression opportunities in care work.

Dave Wilson, Adult Care Team Manager for Tameside Council, said: "By making this video, we wanted real carers to share their experiences to give people who have that natural instinct for wanting to help others, an insight into whether care work is right for them.

“No two carers in this video had the same path into care work. Some studied care in college; others found that they had a natural instinct for care work after caring for family members and children. What links them all together is a fundamental wish to help others”.

Stephen, a Care Manager who appears in the video, said: "I wanted to get the message across that care work is both incredibly challenging and incredibly rewarding. It’s not an easy job, but if you want to make a difference to other peoples’ lives, it could be the most rewarding role you can do."

Councillor Eleanor Wills, Executive Member for Health, Social Care and Population Health, said: "Our local care workers are the pride of our community and this video shows the passion and selflessness that they have for their roles that are making a real difference to the lives of others. I would encourage anyone thinking of going into care to watch this video to hear the experiences of real care workers.”
