There are plans in Tameside to honour a former Manchester United star who died in the Munich Air Disaster.
Bert Whalley joined United in 1934 after starting his career with Stalybridge Celtic. He played for the Reds 32 times in 12 years, with his career interrupted by World War Two.
Following the appointment of Sir Matt Busby, he was made first-team coach before being promoted to chief coach in 1955. Bert passed away, along with 22 others when the plane the Manchester United team, along with supporters and journalists, failed to take off from Munich-Riem Airport on 6 February 1958.
The plans to honour Bert with a plaque will be unveiled later this year.
