Organisers of the Carrbrook Community Garden Competition have described it as 'another blooming success' and thanked everyone for their support.

There were plenty of entries which once again united communities and everyone went home with a framed certificate and a plant.

Held at the community hub on Broadbent Close, it was organised by Councillor Jan Jackson and her colleagues Cllrs. Adrian Pearce and Sam Gosling and sponsored by Stalybridge North councillors and Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club.

The winners of the Best Kept Garden, Joyce and Stephen Wardle, and the winners of the Bees and Butterfly Garden, Matthew Gallagher, received trophies to keep for a year and a keepsake trophy.

They were also given a voucher for £25 to spend at a local garden centre.

Runners up in the best kept gardens class Zeta Barclay and the bees and butterflies Wendy Hulsen also won keepsake trophies and garden vouchers for £15.

The Civic Mayor and Mayoress of Tameside, Councillor Mike Glover and Anne Gordon, attended the event which was facilitated by members from Carrbrook Community Hub. Local PCSOs also went along to add their support.

Councillor Jan Jackson said it was a fantastic day and that the wet weather did not dampen the event.

She added: “Thanks go to everyone involved to make this event successful.

“For the second year running it is one of the many highlights in Carrbrook which I enjoy organising for residents.

“An opportunity to showcase the gardens of those green fingered residents. The stories behind their gardens are endearing and powerful.

“In my eyes you are all winners. I can’t wait to start planning for next year when it is going to be bigger and better, watch this space.”
