Attack on elder mosque trustee

An elder mosque trustee was attacked and left with a cut lip requiring stitches, bruises and grazing, Tameside magistrates heard.

Appearing before the court, Sohail Hamid admitted being responsible for the attack which had happened at a place of worship in Ashton on December 2 last year.

Pleading guilty to a charge of causing actual bodily harm, the 44-year-old, of Broadoak Road, Ashton, was given a four month jail term, suspended for 12 months.

He was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, pay £200 compensation, £85 court costs and a £122 victim surcharge.
