Ashton-based Trust delivers national teacher qualification

Great Academies Education Trust is to deliver a brand-new national qualification to help teachers develop their skills.

The Department for Education (DfE) National Professional Qualification will is in Leading Behaviour and Culture and is a course setup to help aspiring teachers develop a culture of high expectations and good behaviour in their school as well as support pupil wellbeing.

The qualification programme will be led by the Trust’s Director of Education Phil Smith and supported by senior members from Great Academy Ashton, including Principal David Waugh.

Teachers and school leaders looking to take up the Leading Behaviour and Culture course will benefit further from the academies additional involvement in the DfE’s National Behaviour Hub initiative, which aims to improve pupil behaviour in schools by embedding a clear, sustainable behaviour culture throughout the school.

The new DfE professional qualifications are structured to complement and build on each other, offering clear progression pathways for school staff who want to make a wide-reaching impact .

Brendan Loughran, CEO of Great Academies Education Trust, said: “We are committed to instilling aspiring and established leaders with the skills they need to build a self-improving education system, and the NPQ programmes are designed to facilitate the sharing of best practice and contribute to the professional and personal development of the school workforce”.

Great Academies Education Trust is working with the Forward As One Academy Trust, who are managing the Early Career Framework (ECF) and the National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) across the North West region.
