Appeal to give blood in Hyde this Jubilee bank holiday

NHS Blood and Transplant is appealing to blood donors to make appointments to donate blood in Hyde over the bank holiday weekend for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The session is on Friday 3 June from 9.45am to 4.30pm at Central Methodist Church on Crook Street.

This session is only 70 per cent filled, with 53 appointments still available to book.

Dominic Sutherland, Head of Donor Planning and Performance for NHS Blood and Transplant said: “Blood donation is a reason to do something amazing and help ensure patients continue to get the lifesaving blood they need for emergencies, childbirth, surgery, cancer treatment and to treat blood and medical conditions.

“Blood stocks are more likely to drop around public holidays when people go on holiday or enjoy days out with the family and don’t donate. This Jubilee bank holiday weekend we need our amazing donors in Hyde who are fit and healthy, especially those with O blood groups and B negative, though all blood types remain in demand.

“If you used to donate blood but haven’t done so in a while, please come back if you can - our fantastic team will be delighted to welcome you at the Central Methodist Church.”

People can book appointments and check the latest guidance on Covid-19 and giving blood by visiting www.blood.co.uk, calling 0300 123 23 23 or downloading the NHS Give Blood app.
