The search is on for this year's Stalybridge Carnival Queens and her 'royal' retinue of supporters.

A key component of the annual Stalybridge Carnival is the crowning of the Stalybridge Carnival Queen in Cheetham Park, following the carnival parade through the town centre.

This year’s carnival will take place on Sunday 26 June, with the Festival Committee seeking applications now for following categories:

• Petal - Aged three to five years
• Rosebud- Aged five to eight years
• Princess – Aged eight to 10 years
• Junior Queen – Aged 10 to 14 years
• Queen – Aged 14 and above.

The deadline for applications is Monday 21 March.

Joyce, President of Stalybridge Festival Committee, said: “We want this year’s Carnival Parade to be extra special after the disappointment of having to cancel the carnival over the last two years because of the Covid pandemic. 

“Our Carnival Queens take a prominent position in the parade as it winds its way around the town centre and they are seen by more than 5,000 visitors lining the route as well as being formally crowned in Cheetham Park after the parade.

“This year we are very keen to seek nominations for each of the Carnival Queen categories, particularly as this has been seen as being an important element of the carnival – which is now in its 46th year.”
