Ashton's Friends of Waterloo over 50s Christmas dinner was a success with a full house and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
There were some familiar faces and some new. Residents were treated to a traditional Christmas meal and drinks.
For the vegetarian residents Cllr Lee Huntbach, a friend and supporter of events at Waterloo, made a nut roast and also arranged for Santa to distribute presents to all. A raffle and quiz was also held
Guests included Manhar Taylor and his wife Ramila who themselves do so much for charities.
Waterloo is one of two wards with the most lonely, isolated over 50s and the Friends do everything they can to help alleviate that loneliness, especially at Christmas.
Lunches are run throughout the year as well as a knit and natter every Friday morning from 10am to noon.
The event was very successful with helpful members John Bates, Marie, Jackie Warburton, Mary Underwood, Mary Hadfield Frazer, Dawn Jones and Keith Whitehead.
Lorraine and Keith Whitehead are also running a secret Santa appeal and distributing these to those struggling over the festive season.
Covid restrictions permitting the next lunch will be held in January.
