Pre-Season Football Roundup

A number of our sides were in pre-season action last night.

After making the trip to Trafford on Saturday and claiming a 2-2 draw, Curzon Ashton were on the road once again and made the short journey to Stockport Town. The hosts, who have recently been acquired by Stockport County owner Mark Stott, fell behind in the 49th minute after Dom Knowles headed home at the back post. However, Curzon were pegged back shortly after but did manage to reassert their lead and find the decisive goal through Jack McKay.

Elsewhere, after a resounding 12-0 victory over St Martins last Thursday, Hyde United were back in action and managed a 1-1 draw at Abbey Hey. Liam Hardy, who bagged four last Thursday, continued his fine form and put the Tigers ahead, only for Abbey Hey to equalise with four minutes remaining. Hyde continue their pre-season campaign at Colne this Friday (16th).

Stalybridge Celtic were back at Bower Fold and hosted League Two Oldham Athletic. Simon Haworth's side entered the game having lost 1-0 at West Didsbury & Chorlton on Saturday, although the Celts did field a youthful, inexperienced side. Tuesday's encounter was always going to be a tough test against Keith Curle's Latics, and so it proved as Oldham took the lead on the half hour mark after a trialist lobbed Grant Shenton in the Celtic goal. The visitors doubled their lead in the 63rd minute after another trialist hit an unstoppable effort past Shenton. Celtic return to action this weekend at Macclesfield FC.

This evening, Ashton United host League One Crewe Alexandra with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Mossley make the trip to Avro on Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
