North End rescue a point at the death

Glossop North End built on their Derbyshire Senior Cup victory over New Mills with a hard earned point away to Wythenshawe Town on Saturday (November 25).

After a fairly uneventful first half, both sides went into the break having been unable to break the deadlock.

North End started the second half brightly though, going close after Jacques Etia flashed the ball across the box, but no one was there to meet it.

Hosts Wythenshawe Town then came close themselves, with GNE goalkeeper Louis Hood coming to the rescue after a poor mistake at the back gifted the home side an opportunity to score.

The Hillmen shot-stopper was in action again moments later, making two great saves in quick succession to keep the game at 0-0.

But the North End number one was finally beaten with just 17 minutes to go when former Ashton United striker Tom Bentham broke the deadlock with a perfectly placed header.

Just as it looked like the Hillmen were heading for defeat in South Manchester, up stepped Jacques Etia who rescued a point for his side in the 93rd minute of the game, poking the ball home after it fell kindly for him just inside the six-yard box.

A fantastic point on the road for Richard Brodie’s men, against tough opposition, which sees them remain in 21st place ahead of their away trip to the division’s 3rd placed side Prestwich Heys on Saturday.
