New teams ready for action

The Lancashire and Cheshire AFL committee have been working hard in the past few weeks to get the league structure in place for what looks set to be an exciting, and hopefully, a full 2021-2022 season.

With the league team numbers increased to over 100 with new clubs joining and existing clubs adding more teams it has been a big task to fit them into a level to suit their individual abilities and aspirations.

As the league programme was abandoned last season due to Covid there were no promotion or relegation slots decided.

Decisions had to be made along with new and existing clubs to decide which of the eight divisions they would be best suited to and hopefully the final structure will be successful.

One of the new clubs joining is Milltown FC who will be fielding two teams in the league who have been placed in divisions 2 and D.

Milltown secretary Michael Shepherd outlined the formation and ambitions of the new club. He said: “We are pleased to introduce the new local amateur Football team Milltown FC – from the Manchester Ship Canal to our very own cotton mills, thriving to bring the community together.

“The inspiration for the club name could only have been made possible with the talents of : loveartpix (Club Crest) and kit design (Hope and Glory Sportswear).

“We have also had great support from club sponsors Lavendi Talent and Andysmanclub#itsoktotalk and any players wishing to join us on this journey can emal info@milltownfc.co.uk.

“We intend to play at Wright Robinson College this season and our ambitions in the L and C are to play at the highest level.

“It is a competitive and well run league structure offering a good standard of football in the area.”

Milltown showed their talent in a friendly match against Woodhouses FC at Wright Robinson that ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw showing good skills from both sides that augers well for them in the new season.
