Droylsden were involved in a six-goal thriller at the weekend, drawing 3-3 away to New Mills.

The Bloods came from behind to lead but allowed the home side back into the contest and ended up sharing points with the Millers.

In the opening five minutes of the game, New Mills managed to open the scoring as Chad Whyte converted a penalty kick, which was awarded after a scramble in the box.

The home side made it difficult for Droylsden to create any clear opportunities, but they finally found their equaliser on the cusp of halftime, Fuad Kasali with a poacher’s goal following a header towards the back post.

Droylsden took the lead in the 67th minute, the first coming from a counterattack following a New Mills corner, led by Nellson Van who squared the ball to his partner to slot home from close range.

Kasali completed his hattrick shortly after when Ben Lowe’s shot was initially saved by Joseph Oldham but fell into the path of the forward to score his seventh goal in eight games.

Despite being bottom of the league, the Millers showed great character to find a way back into the contest, with goals in quick succession from Rob Payne and Jake Walker levelling the game for the hosts.

Whilst it was frustrating for the Bloods to not come away with three points, results in other fixtures went in their favour meaning they still sit in a relatively safe position in the promotion places with games in hand to play.

Droylsden next travel to Brantingham Road to take on Maine Road FC this Saturday.
