Glossop North End Under 12 girls win league title

Glossop North End Under 12’s Girls team were presented with their league trophy over the weekend, after storming to the Cheshire League title.

Coaches Chris, Josh, Netty and Mike have moulded a winning group of girls, who, bar a cup defeat, have remained unbeaten all season. A wonderful story, as girls’ football becomes increasingly popular, after the England Lionesses’ success last summer.

The girls currently play in the Cheshire Girls League, Stockport Division, and play teams from Hazel Grove, Stockport, Cheadle, Dukinfield and Wilmslow. Their matches take place on Saturday mornings in a 9v9 format, on a half pitch, but in a competitive environment.

Despite topping the league table for much of the campaign, there were no signs of complacency and the girls won the league by some margin, finishing 10 points clear of nearest rivals Cheadle & Gatley Valkyries and Stockport County Ladies. Before getting their hands on the league winner’s trophy, the girls had one more celebratory ‘cup final,’ against Hazel Grove Girls, played in glorious sunshine and with a party atmosphere. Glossop North End girls rounded off their successful season off with a 6-2 win and finally got their hands on their trophy after the full-time whistle.
