Droylsden FC return to non-league pyramid

Butchers Arms Ground, Droylsden FC

After three years away, Droylsden FC will return to the non-league pyramid at the start of the 2023/24 season.

The club was forced to withdraw from the Northern Premier League, the third step of the non-league pyramid, in August 2020, as they were unable to recover from the financial impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on them.

The Bloods have been out of action ever since and it has taken them until now to gather enough funds to reapply for entry back into non-league football. This application has been successful, and Droylsden will play their football in the Division One North of the North West Counties Football League next season, the sixth step of the non-league pyramid.

To ensure the club can use their current stadium next season, the Butchers Arms Ground, they need to obtain a safety certificate, which will cost a hefty amount of money. To help with this, the club have set up a gofundme page, where fans can donate to the cause. The page was set up in early February, and over half of the £10,000 target has been raised already.

This £10,000 will go towards securing this certificate, by ensuring the required safety standards are met. Some of the jobs that need doing include, replacing the roof netting, steam cleaning, removal of moss, and repairs to parts of the William Pace stand, which were vandalised during lockdown.

If this certificate is obtained, everything will be in place for Droylsden FC’s return, and fans can look forward to an exciting time ahead, as they finally have their club back.
