Walk-in Covid vaccine site opens in Chadderton amid rising cases

Chadderton Town Hall, where the new walk-in Covid vaccination site is located.

A new walk-in vaccination site has been set up at Chadderton Town Hall offering first, second and booster Covid jabs.

The new site is part of a major push to get people protected against Covid as the Omicron variant has seen the virus spread quickly across the UK.

Covid infection rates are high and rising rapidly in Oldham.

The number of cases is up by 48 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 540.3 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 1,284 positive Covid-19 tests in Oldham in the week ending 16 December, which was 418 more than the previous seven days.

In response to the growing pressure on the NHS earlier this month, the government set out new guidance to slow the spread of Covid bringing in new measures on face coverings, working from home and Covid passports for certain venues.

As the virus has continued to spread, people are being urged to get vaccinated immediately to protect themselves against the worst effects of the virus.

Director of Public Health in Oldham, Katrina Stephens, said: “Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself from serious illness, having to go to hospital or dying as a result of Covid. It also reduces the chance of getting Covid and passing it on to others.

“Vaccinations are now available to anyone aged 12 or above, so If you haven’t got yourself protected yet now is the time to come forward and get vaccinated, and remember that if you’re an adult and it’s been at least three months since you had a second vaccine dose then you are now eligible for a booster jab.”

Anyone aged 16 and over can visit one of the local vaccine clinics without an appointment and anyone aged 12-15 can book online via the National Booking System.
