Two mourners robbed as they laid flowers at dead relatives grave

A mother and daughter who were visiting a grave in an Oldham cemetery have been attacked as they lay flowers for their dead relative.

Police are appealing for information about a robbery which took place in Greenacres Cemetery on Sunday 21 July.

At around 2.45pm, a man armed with a knife approached two women demanding car keys and a handbag. The woman in her 60s and her daughter were left with cuts and bruises following a short struggle.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with horizontal stripes across the chest, the man fled empty handed via Constantine Street.

The man is described as a white, aged between 18 – 25 years old, of a slim build and around 5ft 10inches tall.

Detective Sergeant Alex Wilkinson, of GMP’s Oldham district, said: “This was a cowardly attack on two women who were simply visiting the grave of a loved one to pay their respects.

“We will have extra police patrols in the area over the coming days.

“The incident has left them both very shaken and we’re urging anyone who witnessed this attack or has any information that could assist our enquiries to please get in touch.”
