Oldham Mountain Rescue Team elect new leader

Dave Wyatt has been elected the new team leader of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team taking over from Rob Tortoishell, the leader for the last five years.

Dave has been a member of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team for 15 years, joining in 2008. In addition to being  an active team member, he has served as Treasurer for the last 10 years and a Deputy Team Leader for the last five years.,Originally  from Cornwall, Dave moved to Saddleworth in 2005, and is a keen runner, mountaineer and skier. 

He said: “Rob has done a brilliant job over the last five years. A massive thank you to him for leading the team. I’ve learnt a lot from him and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Rob announced last year he would be stepping down at the end of the year having served five years as Team Leader. He will be remaining an active team member but is looking forward to being able to spend more time with his loving wife and two children.

A team spokesperson said:” The Team wishes to thank Rob for his continuous support, hard work and dedication.

“Rob joined OMRT in 1997 and is a great asset to the team bringing skills and knowledge of rope access work due to his working life away from the Team. His contributions over the last five years have been invaluable and the team would not be where it is today without him.”

 OMRT Officer and Management Positions 2024 are: Team Leader: Dave Wyatt; Chair: Rob Jones; Secretary: Sean Reade; Treasurer: Adam Knight.

The spokesperson added:” We would also like to congratulate Adam Knight on being elected as our new Treasurer taking over from Dave and to thank Rob Jones and Sean Reade for their continued service in their roles.”
