Children in Christmas classic

Local youngsters will star once again in a performance of the Christmas classic The Snowman next Tuesday (December 17).

Carrot Productions make their annual visit to Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham, with their much-loved big-screen presentation of The Snowman, accompanied by a live orchestra.

The show, which starts at 1.30pm, is provided free for local schools by Oldham Music Service, who have supported it for the past four years.

As ever, the performance features young local singers, including from Oldham Music Centre’s Junior Choir.

Nine-year-old Emma Preen - who also plays the piano and trombone - will sing the haunting Walking in the Air song and Ralph Thomas, 10, will perform the unaccompanied opening verse of Once in Royal David’s City.

They will be working with Carrot Productions’ professional orchestra of hand-picked, first-class musicians in front of a packed audience.

The afternoon also includes an animated version of that most Christmassy of pieces, The Nutcracker Suite.
