Chadderton man to appear in court after fatal collision

Manchester Crown Square

A 35-year-old man from Chadderton will appear in court next month charged with causing death by dangerous driving, after a 25-year-old man died in hospital from serious injuries sustained in a collision.

Police were called to Mount Road in Gorton at around 11.30pm on Monday (5 December), when it's believed two cars travelling northbound crashed at the junction of Balmoral Street.

A black Vauxhall Insignia with two people inside is then understood to have attempted a manoeuvre when it was struck on its offside by a silver Vauxhall Crossland with a black roof.

All three people involved in the collision were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

The passenger of the Vauxhall Insignia - a 25-year-old man - suffered serious injuries and died on Thursday (8 December).

The driver of the Vauxhall Insignia - a 30-year-old woman - also sustained serious injuries.

The driver of the Vauxhall Crossland - a 35-year-old man - suffered minor injuries. Greater Manchester Police say he was arrested at the scene immediately, then subsequently charged and remanded into custody.

Ryan McElroy, of Apeel Lane, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates on Thursday and was charged with two counts of causing serious injury, dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified.

He will next appear at Manchester Crown Square on Thursday 12 January 2023, where he will be further charged with death by dangerous driving.

GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV/doorbell footage from the area in the moments leading up to and before the collision took place.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident 3362 of 05/12/22. Alternatively, details can be passed via the LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
