Appeal to save village communities

Residents in Scouthead & Austerlands and beyond are being urged to attend the community’s  AGM this Wednesday, March 6.

This meeting will decide the future of the group, as the Chairperson,  after years of loyal service,  is stepping down.

And there is a severe warning the future of the village's milestone events is in jeopardy unless people in the community play a bigger part.

After a long hard battle, the group saved Dawsons Field from falling in to the hands of developers, and irs now a focal point for a range of events bringing both villages together.

Empassioned local Phil Howard in a plea for support highlights fetes and shows which over the years have brought great days and memories.

And this year,  2024,   events are already booked along with now the World Famous Scouthead & Austerlands Brass Band competition is held around all villages in Saddleworth.

But if these are to continue, he says, and you feel you’re organisation skills would benefit our community well they would be very much appreciated.

If you would like to be one of those people who helps our community but doesn’t have lots of time to spare “Fine” please just help where you can and when you can.

“These events have been originated set up and run by just six people, three couples, over the last couple of years, we have great volunteers from the villages helping on the event days, but what is needed now are people to help keep this community going forward.”

"We will need a new Chairperson, someone strong, organised and local."

Assistance will always be available to share the load, it is not a 24/7 or even a weekly job, it needs a person who can hold a room, understands our two villages and the challenges if any it holds.

The group has dedicated members who over many years have done so much for our Community, PLEASE come to The Spinners Arms on the  March 6 at 7.30pm.
