Whitfield school pupils learn about Queen's life in Jubilee themed week

Whitfield St James' CE (VC) Primary School held an enrichment week all about the Queen's Platinum Jubilee before breaking up for half term.

Throughout the week, pupils at the Chadwick Street school took part in a range of activities - from researching the Queen, looking at her life before she was Queen, her accomplishments as Queen and her family tree to hunting for corgis around the playground.

The children wrote biographies, letters, speeches and a recount based around the week’s activities.

Classes made cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, decorated cakes and biscuits, made crowns, produced some outdoor artwork and collages.

They also looked at British values and conducted science experiments based on pennies and teabags.

The week concluded with a truly British street party, all children wore their fanciest clothes, and in true British fashion, it rained - not that it spoilt the party!

Leo Ford, deputy head teacher, said: "We sang songs, played games (led by children in Year 5 and 6) and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

"Although we invited the Queen, the children understood how busy she was and that she wasn’t able to attend.

"The children loved the week and enjoyed learning about our monarch. All children from Nursery to Year 6 took part."
