Volunteers needed for One World Festival in New Mills

It's been announced that High Peak's free community festival about peace, diversity, world development and the environment will take place this summer.

The One World Festival in New Mills showcases campaigns, community groups and other not-for-profit organisations working towards a fairer, more sustainable world.

Each year, the group has a topical theme that the festival's speakers, organisers and stalls help to promote.

As well as keynote speakers, the event is renowned for its music stage, food and drink, with thousands attending each year in High Lea Park, on St Mary’s Road in New Mills.

It’s hoped the festival will take place on 2 July, and organisers are looking for volunteers to help out.

Sophie Mackreth, who is on the organising committee, said: "The One World Festival is something people in High Peak look forward to. It’s been going since 1990 and involves local bands playing and has stalls from local groups that try to make a difference to the world we live in. It’s a lovely day out.

"Last year because of Covid 19 restrictions we weren’t able to stage the whole event but we still had some stalls out.

“We need volunteers for organisation and on the day itself. We need at least five or six more people to help out between now and July. We meet at the Adult Education Centre in New Mills in the evening so anyone who is interested can just come along.”

The next meeting is on 22 February at 7pm at the High Peak Community Arts’ office, in New Mills Adult Education Centre, Spring Bank, New Mills (entrance via car park off Cresswell Street).

If you can't make that date but you’re interested in a stall, playing in your band or volunteering, email info@oneworldfestival.org
