The new extension to Glossopdale School in Hadfield has now been built. 

Internal work is now being carried out on the interior of the structure, which will create more space at the Newshaw Lane secondary school and sixth form. 

The construction began last summer and it’s on schedule to be completed by June this year.

It’s a single detached extension with two floors. The main structure is now in place while partition walls and internal doors are now being installed.

The new extension is located to the south-west of the existing school building and comprises nine classrooms, toilets, storage rooms and offices, providing capacity for 200 school places.

The building will be connected to the main school by an overhead canopy, ensuring all-weather accessibility between the existing school and the new building.

The new three-court Multi Use Games Area will replace existing soft play and football fields and will provide a more versatile and accessible option, better suited to the school’s needs.

Outside the building, work continues to configure surface water drainage and establish a base for the Games Area and the surrounding landscaping.

The capacity of the school will increase from 1,200 to 1,440 pupils. Of those, 1,200 will be Years 7-11 (240 per year group, which is up from 200). Years 12/13 will be up to 240 pupils.

Head teacher Debbie McGloin said: "We are really pleased to see the extension progress and we are excited that it will be completed in time for our new Year 7 intake in September as we will be able to offer an extra 40 places for the children in our community.”
