Two High Peak towns are among those which have seen the biggest increase in high street footfall in the last three years.

According to a study, suburban and small town centres such as Glossop and Buxton have seen an unexpected rise in popularity over from 2019-2022.

Buxton’s activity has increased by 26% whilst Glossop’s activity has amplified by 33%.

However, as the high street’s popularity is ever growing, this has caused a significant downfall in footfall in city centres especially due to the prices of public transport which continues to skyrocket, encouraging more people to stay local.

PlaceMake io founder Chlump Chatkupt said 'The places that have thrived have a more balanced, diverse mix of office, residential and retail. Residents are spending more time at home and in their local community and finding they can do a lot without venturing too far out.'
