Successful return for Glossop's Victorian and Heritage Weekend

The organisers of Glossop's Victorian and Heritage Weekend say they're delighted about the success of the event, which made a welcome return for the first time in years.

Thousands of people turned out across the three-day extravaganza of vintage fun and entertainment, held from Friday to Sunday.

One of many highlights was the parade down Glossop Brook Road, High Street West, Railway Street and Henry Street - led by Manchester Pipe Band - on Saturday morning as huge swathes of people lined the streets to enjoy it.

Hadfield South borough councillor Ed Siddall, who is chair of the Victorian and Heritage Weekend committee, said: "It was incredibly successful thanks for the local community coming out and supporting us. I was amazed by how many people showed up.

"We’ve have raised enough money for a repeat either next year or in 2024. We’re going to have a debrief meeting in a couple of weeks and decide how to go forward with the event.

"It’s really good that we’ve managed to pull it off with such a small committee and we hope more people will want to join us to help organise the next one.

"Going forward we will investigate more road closures to make it a bigger event, but we’ll have to discuss that with the council."

Cllr Siddall says he wants to thank everyone who took part, from the volunteers, to the performers, marshalls and the people who turned up for three days of fun.

Tameside Radio broadcast live from the weekend on both days, while legendary former Glossop Chronicle editor David Jones was invited on stage to close the festivities.
