Plans for new visitor centre in New Mills

High Lea Hall in New Mills.

New Mills Town Council have submitted plans to redevelop High Lea Hall and create a new visitor centre.

The council controversially closed the existing heritage and information centre that was located in the centre of the town earlier this year.

The proposals submitted to High Peak Borough Council are for a visitor/heritage centre on the ground floor of High Lea Hall alongside a café. Opening times would be limited between 9am and 4.30pm.

The first floor would be changed from commercial use to residential.

NMTC say the move to High Lea Hall, which they own, will secure the financial future of the centre as they will no longer be paying rent.

The larger premises will also allow more the heritage centre collection to be displayed. The café will provide refreshment facilities for park users.

The application is available to view at www.highpeak.gov.uk

The public consultation ends on 18 August.
