Padfield Residents' Society brings the community together with Coal Race and flower competition

Women Power: PRS Coal Race

Residents of Padfield Village participated in gardening and floral competition, followed by a rugged Coal Race, to keep the community fervour going this Summer.

The Padfield Resident's Society (PRS) had recently organised an exciting Coal Race. In the sweltering heat of last Sunday afternoon, the Redgate Coal Race saw several residents of Padfield Village participating. In this short but gruelling competition, the participants ran the uphill distance with giant bags of coals on their shoulders.

James Fishlock was the winner of the men's race, carrying a 25 Kg bag. Georgia Teackle came first in the women's race with a 10 Kg coal bag. The little champions of Padfield Village were not to be ignored! The kids finished the race carrying a single lump of coal on their little shoulders.

Stephanie Brammer, Chair of Padfield Residents Society, said:

"It was lovely to see this year's Redgate Coal Race so well attended. It's always a popular event, and it was great to see everyone coming out once again. I feel it's important to keep these village traditions going, even the weather held for us this year."

EarliFirst in Garden category: 21 Lees Rower, in August, PRS had also organised for their yearly Floral Competition. Members of the committee have been walking around the village looking at the gardens over a period of time to ensure they saw all the gardens at their best. There were two categories: Gardens and Floral Displays.

The Garden at 21 Lees Row came at the first position, and the one at 129 Platt Street has become runner-up. In the Floral Display category, 151 Padfield Main Road came first, and 6 Jackson Street came second.
