Road users are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys if using the A616 or A628 across the Peak District and A57 near Woolley Lane in Hollingworth next week. 

National Highways will carry out overnight surveying activities to check the condition of the road surface and drainage, and do some routine maintenance, including lighting repairs.  

This will take place on the A616 between 8pm on Monday 26 September and 6am the following morning, then on the A628 from 8pm on Tuesday 27 September to 6am the next day. 

The A616 will be closed in both directions between Flouch Roundabout and Langsett. 

Eastbound traffic will be diverted north towards Penistone on the A628, then via the A629 back to the A616. Westbound traffic will be diverted via the A629 north to Penistone and then onto the A628 at Flouch Roundabout. Clearly signed diversions will be in place. 

The A628 will be closed in both directions between Flouch Roundabout and Woolley Lane, as will the A57 between the A6018 Back Moor Lane Junction and its junction with Hattersley Roundabout. 

There will also be temporary traffic lights near the Woodhead Pass/Woodhead reservoir that may cause slight delays to journey times for technology work. 

Vehicles will be unable to: 

• leave or join the A628 at its junctions with Windle Edge, Wedneshough and the A6024 and the B6105 at Woodhead Road; 
• turn left from the A628 westbound carriageway on to the A57 Woolley Lane Junction; or 
• turn left from the A57 eastbound carriageway on to the A6018 at Back Moor Junction. 

Laybys will also be closed and clearly signed diversions will be in place. 

Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A628 at the A628/Woolley Lane Junction onto the A57 through Glossop and continuing along the A57 Snake Road to Sheffield. At Sheffield traffic would be expected to follow local and strategic signing as required. 

Westbound traffic will be advised of the closure on the M1 and diverted North. At jJunction 42 they should exit the M1 and join the westbound M62. At junction 18 they should exit the M62 and join the clockwise carriageway of the M60. At junction 24 they should exit the M60. 

Non-motorway traffic will be diverted onto the northbound A616 at Flouch Roundabout. At Holmfirth they should turn left onto the A635 and continue westbound until the junction with the A6018 at Stalybridge. At Stalybridge they should turn left onto the A6018 and continue in a south-easterly direction until they reach the A57.
