The popular Lantern Parade in New Mills, part of the town's festival, has been cancelled.
Organisers, who had been struggling to get enough volunteers to deliver the event, announced the move in a statement online.
They said: “New Mills Festival Committee are very sorry to announce that we have had to make the extremely difficult decision to cancel the lantern procession and street party this year.
“Events outside of our control have meant that we do not have the volunteer capacity to deliver the procession and street party safely and we have a duty of care to everyone attending, as well as our current volunteers, to ensure we can put on a safe event.”
The event is one of the highlights of the Festival that will take place between 9 and 25 September which was acknowledged by organisers.
“We understand that this will be disappointing for everyone who was looking forward to the event, and we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone behind the scenes who has been working so hard in preparation for the procession.”
They confirmed that information about refunds will be issued shortly.
The dozens of other events are going ahead as planned these include gigs and concerts, walks and talks, craft and art fairs, comedy and film nights.
