Litter pickers tidy up Glossop end of A57 Snake Pass

A local community group spent more than two hours on Sunday morning (6 March) clearing litter from the Glossop end of the A57 Snake Pass.

Volunteers from Litter Ninjas of Glossopdale took advantage of the normally busy route currently being closed to most motorists due to recent heavy rainfall causing several sections of the road to slip.

Verges were cleared up to the 2km mark, a fly-tipped mattress was dragged out of a field, plastic was removed from the weed farm and there were lots of spare car parts found.

Liz Collier, from the group, said: "Thanks to everyone, especially the teenagers who really got stuck in. Other volunteers groups were also at work on the lay-bys higher up, and work is ongoing from the Sheffield side - it’s all for the greater good.

"Thanks to Derbyshire County Council for granting access whilst road closed, High Peak Borough Council for collecting the bags and The Bureau in Glossop for loaning equipment.

"We will be going again so please feel free to join us!"

Local people can also make a difference by joining the Litter Ninjas of Glossopdale to help keep the community clean and tidy.

They have a Facebook group which you can get involved in here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/306058487840445
