Independent review gives verdict on High Peak Borough Council

An independent review has judged High Peak Borough Council to be 'well managed' and providing services that offer 'value for money'.

It follows the Local Government Association’s Corporate Peer Challenge process which saw a team of local government professionals review both HPBC and their Strategic Alliance partner Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

Focussing on performance and operations key findings include the Council’s strengths in governance and financial management, and investment in its staff and elected members.

The report also praises the Alliance as being at the ‘forefront of creative thinking’ with a ‘clear focus on efficiency and resilience’.

Council Leader, Councillor Anthony Mckeown, said: “The peer review process is a great way for councils to hear from others who work in local government about the things that we do well and where there are opportunities for improvement.”

Welcoming the report, he said it had provided valuable insights.

“Our priority is to ensure the services we provide to our residents, businesses and visitors are the best they can be - and we’ve already set out the actions we’ll take on the back of this review to make sure they are.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in this process, including our councillors and staff, our partners and the reviewers themselves, for their time and support and assure them we will use what we’ve learnt to benefit everyone in our Borough.”
