Six High Peak organisations that are continuing to support local people through the Covid-19 pandemic have been given grants totalling more than £10,000. 

The money from the Public Health Covid-19 Community Response Fund will be distributed by Derbyshire County Council to community and voluntary sector groups who work with the most vulnerable. 

The grants have been awarded as follows:  

• £1,141.92 for PCrefurb for equipment used by volunteers to support vulnerable groups  
• £2,000 for Youth Matters in New Mills for activities for young people and families to support those with poor mental health 
• £1,050 for Start2Jog to support qualified leaders expand the group to demand the demand following lockdown 
• £2,000 for Whitfield Parish, St James and St Luke’s Church to meet an increased demand for food bags and expanding deliveries into the community café to support isolation and job seekers 
• £2,000 for Zink Food Bank after seeing an increase in demand  
• £2,000 for Good News Family Care (Homes) after seeing an increase in demand for their supported accommodation for vulnerable men fleeing domestic abuse or homelessness  

In total, 20 grants have been given across Derbyshire - including £2,000 for Derbyshire Cancer Buddies who operate countywide. 

DCC Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart, said: “Covid-19 is still with us and continues to cause serious illness for some people.   

“These grants mean that a wide range of organisations across the county can continue their work and keep those most at risk safe.  

“Community and voluntary groups provide much needed support for local people and this extra funding will help them continue their vital work.” 

The Public Health Covid-19 Community Response Fund was set up in in September 2021 with funding from the government.

The scheme will be continuing until 31 March and provides grants up to a maximum of £2,000 per project.
