High Peak MP launches campaign following Mottram Bypass approval

Mr Largan with Tintwistle Parish Councillor Thomas Wynne on Manchester Road to highlight the need for a bypass in Tintwistle too.

After approval was given last week for the Mottram Bypass and Glossop Spur Road High Peak’s MP has launched a campaign to push for a second phase.

Robert Largan wants what he sees as a key second phase that would bypass both Hollingworth and Tintwistle.

He said: “After over half a century of waiting, I am delighted that the Government has officially approved the Mottram Bypass and Glossop Spur Road.”

The Secretary of State confirmed that a Development Consent Order has been approved on November 16.

The MP said: “But I’m not stopping here. I will not rest until the second phase of the bypass has been built around Tintwistle.”

He is working with local residents on a proposal for a “Village Gateway” traffic calming scheme for. A study by Highways England has been carried out which concluded that such measures are needed locally.

Mr Largan said: “If we’re going to secure the extra funding needed for a “Village Gateway” traffic calming scheme and for the key second phase of the bypass around Tintwistle, we need to demonstrate the strength of local support.

“That’s why I’ve launched a special petition in support of the projects, which I will be presenting to Parliament. You can sign the petition and show your support online at www.robertlargan.co.uk/tintwistletoo.”
