Glossop Rotary Club hand out Jog donations

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team have been given £2,000 from funds raised by the annual Glossop Jog.

Held in difficult circumstances the jog, organised by Glossop Rotary Club, took place in October and saw £4,600 raised.

The event was organised and co-ordinated by Barrie Powney who said the amount of funds raised was a great result.

To raise the cash joggers from most of the local schools ran around the course at the Pikes Lane Redgra and sports ground to complete as many laps as they could to achieve sponsorship.

With a lap of approximately half a mile, the final distance covered was 2231, more than the length of the British Isles.

Barrie presented the donation to Glossop MRT alongside Glossop Rotary Club President Derek Scott at a presentation dinner as a thanks for their help on jog day and their commitment to those in distress on the surrounding hills.

An award of £500 was also made to Glossop Foodbank and £250 to the Haywill Animal Rescue and Therapy Centre.

In addition, the club will also be donating £500 towards a Rotary project on behalf of HUGS (Helping Uganda Girls School).

Cups and shields were presented to schools and teams who participated as well as a special shield award to the pupil who raised the most sponsor money with £215.

Barrie thanked all those who attended. The 2023 Jog will take place on Sunday 8 October.
