Glossop residents create lasting memories at Christmas party

Victoria Hall opened its doors again this week to hold the annual Christmas Party for local residents.

This is just one of many events that The Friends organise during the year, ranging from bingo and social events to musical evenings and heritage events. Art exhibitions for both adult artists and local primary schools are also held at the hall.

The Christmas merriment was in abundance at the party with the collaborative work of two community groups bringing a wonderful cooking demonstration.

Jackie and Gill from Bellies not Bins community group, based in Hadfield, demonstrated how easy and economical it is for people to make healthy meals.

Party revellers were able to sample the food on offer, enjoying dishes of spaghetti bolognese, chicken casserole, vegetable stew or vegetable chilli.

A seasonal buffet was served following this, accompanied by music from Occasional Sax, then the group enjoyed carol singing and dancing. There was also some safety advice from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The event came to a close with raffle prizes being given out and the winners of the slow cookers giveaway announced.

Friends of Victoria Hall said: "Events like this are what make a community and we certainly like to make everyone feel welcome."
