A628 Tintwistle traffic signal improvement works given green light

A628 Manchester Road in Tintwistle, where the improvement works will take place.

Drivers are being advised to allow more time for their journeys as pedestrian traffic signals are being replaced on the A628 in Tintwistle.

The essential work will begin at the junction of Old Road in the village on Monday 5 December.

National Highways say it is replacing the traffic lights, cabling, and ducting to create safer journeys for road users and pedestrians, and fewer maintenance callouts in the future.

The work is expected to take around two weeks and is due to be completed by mid-December. It will take place from Monday to Friday, between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

A spokesperson for National Highways added that in the unlikely event that night-time working is required, this will be low noise-related works, completed as soon as possible.

To carry out this work safely, National Highways will close one lane and operate the other lane by traffic light signals. There will also be a temporary pedestrian crossing facility in place during the work, which has been agreed in advance with the police and local authority.
