Victoria Park was buzzing as crowds flock to return of Denton Carnival

The crowds flocked back to Denton Carnival, with a funfair on the Civic Square and entertainment in Victoria Park last Sunday (12 September).

A small organising team worked hard to ensure the event could go ahead safely after last year’s carnival had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

There was no parade this year but the park was buzzing with performances by local dance schools ‘Strictly fit fab fun’ and Denton Brass.

There were children’s rides and go-karts, ice cream, candy floss, balloons, food and gift stalls.

Also back was the traditional bowling competition for the Carnival Shield - this year with the theme Bowling for a Healthier Life.

MP Andrew Gwynne praised the return of the event and said special thanks went to Lucy Gibson of Gibson’s Dance Academy for taking on organising the event.

He said: “It was nice to have the carnival back for the first time since 2019. There wasn’t a parade because of Covid but it was nice to bring people together and have fun.”

Only the popular Buxton Billerettes were unable to attend due to a Covid outbreak among their ranks.
