A trial date has been set for a 19-year-old Ashton man who is accused of killing his younger sister in North Wales.

Matthew Selby, of Windermere Crescent, appeared at Mold Crown Court via video link on Wednesday (4 August) after being charged with the murder of 15-year-old Amanda Selby.

A provisional start date of 28 February 2022 for the trial was set by the judge, while Mr Selby is due to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 29 October 2021.

He had briefly appeared at Llandudno Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (3 August).

North Wales Police were called to a report of a "domestic disturbance" at Ty Mawr Holiday Park in Towyn last Saturday afternoon (31 July).

The force has asked the public not to speculate about the incident on social media as this is an active investigation.

'Amanda was a lovely student'

Droylsden Academy, where Amanda was a Year 10 pupil, say the school family is 'devastated by this awful news' and they plan to remember Amanda with a tribute 'when the time is right'.

A statement on the school's website says: "Our school is saddened to have received the tragic news that one of our students, Amanda Selby in Year 10, has lost her life whilst on holiday with her family in Wales. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Amanda’s family at what is an incredibly difficult time.

"Our school family is devastated by this awful news. Amanda was a lovely student and she will be sorely missed by students and staff. Clearly, many members of our school community will be affected by this loss and we will be offering support to those who need it in the weeks and months ahead.

"We will also plan a tribute when the time is right so that we can remember all that Amanda brought to our school."
