Tips on how to live well and age well

Older residents in Mossley dropped into the George Lawton Hall for a special get-together.

People aged 65 and over from Stalybridge, Dukinfield and Mossley, were invited to a Living Well, Ageing Well Clinic. It was a free event with lunch provided.

Invitations were sent to eligible patients registered at the Staveleigh Medical Centre, St Andrew House Medical Centre, Lockside Medical Centre, Grosvenor Medical Centre, Millbrook Medical Centre, Mossley Medical Practice, The Pike Practice, King Street Medical Centre and Town Hall Medical Centre.

It was organised by Stalybridge, Dukinfield and Mossley Primary Care Network (PCN).

Older people can be at risk of social exclusion and the event was an opportunity for people to learn more about how to become inclusive in their community and neighbourhood.

You can watch a video from the clinic, captured by our photographer Nigel Wood, at the top of the page.

Stalls were set up and demonstrations given by services, such as Action Together and Mind, to help people with their mental well-being, finances, living well and more independently, becoming more active, healthier and being socially connected. Services commissioned and funded specifically by the PCN including on the day health-checks.

Martin Turner, PCN manager at Stalybridge, Dukinfield and Mossley, said: “We want people to feel excited about being part of a community group. This event will give them the opportunity to make new and varied relationships.  We also want people to feel in control of their lives, to empower them to reduce loneliness for themselves and others.”

There will be an Ageing Well luncheon, hosted by  a Complex Care Team, for the over-65s on Tuesday, August 31 at 11am to 1pm at the Active Copley café area. There are 30 places available on a first come, first serviced basis for patients registered with a GP practice in Dukinfield, Mossley and Stalybridge.

Anyone interested should call 0161 342 5300. Free transport provided by Tameside Council, to and from the venue, can be arranged for anyone unable to get to the event alone.
