The ultimate assistance - fundraising gig for dying mum

Two caring crooners who have been touched by a mum’s terminal cancer diagnosis are holding a charity gig to help her family.

Chris Brooks and Kurt Slater, two of three of the group the ‘Ultimate Boyband Experience’, are singing in a charity concert for Sara Siddall, 37, after her illness has left the family struggling financially.

Sara was told by doctors a month ago that she had just weeks to live, but has battled bravely against the disease.

The Stalybridge mother-of-three was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2016 and had intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy to try and fight the disease.

Despite the treatment she was told by doctors one year later that her disease was terminal, but they couldn’t give her an estimate on time.

In early September, she visited the hospital suffering with pains in her neck when doctors broke the news that the cancer had spread to her jugular vein and that she was unlikely to survive longer than a fortnight.

Her family brought Christmas forward and celebrated it last month so that Sara and her three children could have it together one final time.

To help the family financially, Chris and Kurt will be singing at the Peg’s Lantern in Ashton next Friday, October 18. They will be performing part of their usual set of boyband hits as well as a Robbie Williams tribute.

Speaking to the Reporter, Chris said: “They’ve had an early Christmas, the problem now is financial.

“There’s no help from the government, her husband can’t work because he’s looking after her and she’s got young children as well.

“Because they’re struggling financially we want to make it as comfortable as possible for them.”

Tickets for the gig are £5 on the door and the pair are hoping to get as many people along as possible to help the family.

There will also be a raffle and an auction to raise further funds, and both the band and the pub are hosting the event free of charge to make sure all money raised goes to a good cause.
