Tameside's bin collection dates over Christmas and New Year

Tameside residents are being encouraged to manage their waste over Christmas by checking when their bins are due for collection and by recycling as much as possible.

Bins will be emptied as normal on the December 23 and Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24) but there will be NO collections on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) or Boxing Day (Thursday, December 26).

If you are due a green (general waste) bin collection on Christmas Day it’ll take place on Friday, December 27. Black (recycling) and blue (paper) bins will be emptied on Tuesday, December 31.

Green bin collections due on Boxing Day will be moved to Monday, December 30, with black and blue bins empties on Thursday, January 2.

Normal collections will take place on Friday, December 27, Monday, December 30 and Tuesday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve). However, if you’re due a green bin collection on New Year’s Day (January 1), it will take place on Friday, January 3. Blue and black bins will be collected on Monday, January 6.

There will be NO brown bin collections from Christmas Day until Tuesday, January 7, 2020, when the full programme of collections will resume.

Residents are being urged to recycle as much waste as possible.

You can use the brown bin for food waste which includes cooked and raw food  and the black bin for glass, tins, foil and plastic bottles. The blue bin is for paper and card only. It’s not for general packaging so please don’t use it for bubble wrap or polystyrene.

Additional cardboard and paper can be left out with the blue bin on collection day. Please ensure loose paper is secured in a clear or labelled bag.

You can leave your real Christmas tree out with your brown bin collection from Tuesday, January 7.

Don’t put any electrical items in any of your bins. These should be taken to a recycling centre. Many supermarkets and shops have collection bins for old batteries.

The household recycling centres at Bayley Street and Ash Road are open (8am to 6pm) every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Finally, the council appeals to residents to park considerately so that bin wagons have access to streets.
