Scam alert: CRS say they will never ask for personal details over the phone

Tameside Community Response Service (CRS) are warning customers that they will never ask for personal or bank details over the phone.

The Digital Switchover is taking place between now and 2025, which means telephone providers will be moving their customers from old analogue landlines over to new upgraded landline services using a more reliable digital network.

The upgrade will be delivered by the telecoms industry in a phased approach.

Telecare companies operating in Tameside may be getting in touch with existing customers about upgrading equipment. However, if you are unsure about any calls you receive, always directly contact your telecare provider to confirm it is genuine.

CRS are letting existing customers know that they will be in touch to upgrade telecare products such as personal alarms and fall monitors.

CRS are currently arranging visits with those who already use the service to swap old devices to new versions compatible with the new digital network.

They have already been in touch with over 2,000 customers and will be contacting the remaining customers between now and December 2025. Existing units will continue to work until replacement.

Susan, who works for CRS, said: "When the office ring up to make appointments or to speak to the service users themselves or their family, we will never ever ask for any bank details or any other personal details because we already have them.

Executive Member for Adult Social Care Cllr John Taylor said: ‘’Our Community Response Service supports over 2,500 residents across Tameside to live well and safely in their own homes.

‘’It is important we share this message with our family, friends and others in our communities who access their telecare support. Crucially telling those you know who may not be online so they are aware someone from the service will be in touch.’’
