Rev David Warner column: The true value of love and friendship shines through

Reverend David Warner, the Vicar of Mossley, speaks on the feast of Transfiguration in his latest Reporter column.

This Sunday many churches are celebrating the feast of the Transfiguration.

To be transfigured is to be given a new appearance, and the Bible tells us Jesus’ face shone with the light of God’s love - the feast recalls Jesus taking his closest friends to a mountain, where his appearance changed, and they saw him for who he really was - this empowering experience was meant to help them get through the hardships of what would happen to Jesus at the end of his life.

August is a time for holidays and a quieter pace of life - and with the easing of restrictions I hope it’s a time for you to catch up with friends and family you may not have seen face to face for a while.

Loved ones are the people who see us for who we really are, rather than who we pretend to be or perhaps would even like to be - they see who we really are and love us, support us and stand by us in the journey of life.

I also find that it’s my loved ones who really enable me to be the person I believe I was created to be.

So, thank you for the gift of love and friendship, and a massive shout out to those who, like Jesus’ friends and disciples, see us for who we really are and will stand by us through everything.
