Owner attacked as machete-wielding robbers raid Mossley business

Police are appealing for witnesses after armed robbers targeted a family-owned business in Top Mossley, attacking the owner and making off with thousands of pounds in cash and a large amount of jewellery.

It happened at around 9.25am last Saturday morning (19 June) at Mossley Cash Emporium on Argyle Street, close to where a large car boot sale was taking place at the time.

Greater Manchester Police say two men had knocked on the door and, once inside, assaulted the business owner several times whilst demanding that he opened the safe.

The men emptied the safe, the till and window in to a bag before fleeing on foot.

One of the men is described as being white and of an average build. At the time, he was wearing black clothing/accessories and carrying a large machete.

The other is also described as being of an average build. He was also wearing black clothing/accessories - including black tracksuit bottoms with a red logo and stripes on the outer lower leg. He was also carrying a large machete, as well as a light blue shopping bag with a lemon on it.

DC Angela Brown, of GMP's Tameside district, said: "The victim of this armed robbery has, understandably, been left scared. We are supporting him and doing everything we can to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"The incident happened in broad daylight near a busy junction and market, where a large car boot sale was taking place, so we know that there were a good number of people in the vicinity at the time.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who can help us identify these men or has any other information which may assist us with our investigation to contact us. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers."

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 9262, quoting 1079 19/06/21 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
