Outdoor craft market comes to Droylsden town centre

A craft fair is happening at Droylsden precinct this Saturday (August 14) and stands in support of a local charity.

The artesian fair, organised by Little Owl Events, runs from 10am-2.30pm and features the best of local creatives.

£5 of each stall fee will also be donated to Amy Rose’s Army. Amy Rose is a 7-year-old with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, a condition that means she has complex needs.

One regular stall holder and Droylsden resident, Bernie Chant, is going to be shaving her head to raise £1000 for Amy Rose.

Bernie added: “Amy Rose uses an Eye Gaze system at school, and I would like to raise enough funds to purchase a system for her to use at home, which will hopefully help with her communication.

“Extra funds will be for essential equipment and to possibly fund a family break to Fife which has fully adapted and accessible accommodation and parks with wheelchair accessible equipment.

“I wanted to do something that would have a big impact on me and shock people into giving. Anyone who knows me knows my hair is the one feature I am proud of. So having my head shaved is the obvious choice.”

She’ll brave the shave at around 1pm in front of Bespoke Flowers and run a fundraising raffle on her stall Crafty Love outside the Concord suite.

Bernie was the one to approach Little Owl Events and its owner Cathy Jackson to see about putting a market on in Droylsden.

Cathy explained: “Little Owl Events was mainly focused on indoor events until covid came along and pulled the rug out from under our feet so our last indoor market was held in November 2019 of Stalybridge.

“Lots of stall holders rely on our fairs to showcase their makes so we decided to move our markets outdoors. Beginning in Woodley Stockport then working with Stalybridge Town Team, we’re hoping to continue expanding.

“We want this to be the first of many artisan markets in Droylsden, bringing something different to the precinct, as well as getting more people into town."
