Man dies after falling from motorway bridge

A man has died after falling from a bridge over the M60 motorway. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene near junction 22 at around 2.25pm on Sunday afternoon (16 May), after police received reports that a man had fallen from the bridge. 

The North West Air Ambulance also attended but, despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The anticlockwise carriageway between junction 23 for Ashton-under-Lyne and junction 22 for Manchester and Oldham was closed for a period to allow investigative work to be carried out. 

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called at around 2.25pm on Sunday May 16 to a report of a male falling from a bridge near junction 22 of the M60.

"Emergency services attended the scene, including the North West Air Ambulance however despite the best efforts of medics, the male was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing."
