Labour hold Longdendale where congestion and transport top agenda

ALL SMILES: Jacqueline North ensured Longdendale remained in Labour's hands.

Longdendale stayed red and strengthened its holding in the ward against the national trend as Jacqueline North won with a 52.5 per cent share of the vote.

She said traffic, congestion and bus services in the area remained the key issues residents were most concerned about when she had been on the campaign trail.

“In parts of Longdendale there is a very threadbare bus service and that is something we need to sort out,” she stated.

She said environmental issues and people’s desire to live in an area that is safe and clean were the most important factors.

They evidently won the day. The Conservatives finished second with 746 votes with the Greens on 390 and Liberal Democrats on 69.

Longdendale councillors Jacqueline Owen and Janet Cooper were also in attendance at the count.
