Hundreds of plants set to bloom in Stalybridge

Stalybridge will be looking brighter even during the darkness of winter - thanks to volunteers.

The Stalybridge Town Team - which was set up over nine years ago - spent a day planting 850 pansies and 300 bulbs for the colder season.

They paid for and built the planters themselves, placing them throughout the town centre, with the intention that the greenery lasts until next April.

Ray Harrison, Town Team Chairman, said: "I think the brightness of flowers and keeping Stalybridge town clean and tidy is important through any season, but during these dark, Covid times, it’s even more important".

The Town Team said on Facebook: "Thanks to everyone who lent a hand as once again we transformed our beds and tubs around the centre - socially distanced of course during these unprecedented and challenging times!"

Money for the plants has been generated through the 100 Club - a way for the community to support the improvement of the town.

Earlier this year, the team also unveiled their environmental hub, used for supporting their clean-up efforts and storing tools.

In the festive month ahead, they are going to put up a Christmas tree beside it for passers-by to enjoy through darker evenings.

In their monthly meetings, the Stalybridge Town Team continue to address issues and incidents, as well as develop actions plans with the Greater Manchester Police and local authorities.
