Tameside will once again celebrate diversity, tolerance and equality at its annual Pride event this weekend, which will look a little different again this year due to Covid-19.

Nationally, Pride Month - which took place throughout June - may have come to an end but the borough's event takes place on Saturday (17 July) from 7pm until late.

It will be third time the event has taken place and the second time online.

Like last year, due to the pandemic, it will be streamed from TamesidePride.co.uk and through their Facebook page

To continue to support the work of Tameside Pride and their local communities, they will be raising money for Willow Wood Hospice and Tameside Pride in order to help fund a big physical event in 2022.

People can text TAMESIDE 3 to 70085 to donate £3, or change the 3 to a higher number to give more.

Last year, lots of people joined in virtually online to celebrate LBGTQIA+ in Tameside and organisers hope they will do so again this year, while they hope to see people again in person later this year.

Audenshaw councillor Oliver Ryan, who is chair of Tameside Pride, said: “I’m delighted that the event is taking place as it’s important to show our diversity in Tameside, not only for the LBGTQIA+ community but for all.

"We want to help make the places where we live, work, study and play more inclusive of LBGTQIA+ community, improving the mental health and wellbeing of people through the reduction of stigma, discrimination and social exclusion.

"The event is organised by volunteers independently of Tameside Council who are happy to support the group and promote, to celebrate our boroughs amazing diversity that makes us stronger. I hope everyone gets involved again to join in the celebration."
